Safetyword’s new demo ‘Shoddy Gods’ has been recorded, mixed and mastered, and is (almost) ready for public consumption. The final track-listing for the single is as follows:

  1. Wooden Tongue Depressor
  2. White Plastic Agitator
  3. Flaming Hoop
  4. (Untitled)

No plans on the release details yet, but we’re working on coming to an arrangement them 😉

In other Safetyword news, the boys just won the first heat of the Battle of the Bands contest at the famous Moles Club in Bath, so are now through to the semi’s – nice one! See our Events page for the semi-final details.

Congratulations again to the lads, as usual they’re turning heads with their unique sound and it’s really heartening to hear they’re doing so well 🙂

Here’s what they said on their new forum:

Safetyword won heat two of the Moles Club ‘battle of the bands’ competition on Monday night. The heat took place at Bath’s famous Moles venue, attracting a full-house of enthusiastic punters. Semi-finals take place on November 24th again at Moles.

As well as accumulating 149 votes from a decidedly ‘nu-metal’ audience, it was the panel of industry judges who assured the band of a place in the semi’s.

The contest is an important – if unexpected – event for the band, since all heats are being heavily promoted in both local and national press. At stake is not only the possibility of attracting attention from some of the South-West’s most well respected labels and media, but valuable recording time in Moles Studio in Bath.

Here’s excerpts from the gig review in today’s Venue magazine:

“Having to open tonight’s Battle of the Bands to a less dense, less alcohol-induced crowd, the odds of proceeding to the next round for Safetyword are instantly stacked against them. Despite drawing on a range of influences the trio perform an understated, yet adorable set that proves the evening’s highpoint.

… tonight belongs to safetyword who are thankfully selected for the semis.”

  1. Cheers Stef,
Yes, as usual there are some delays with getting things onto our site, but we’re hoping to put at least some of the new tracks live for download, together with some stuff we have/are record(ed/ing) in various living rooms during the past few months.
There’s a real mix of stuff, so it should hopefully be quite interesting to listen to.
    Cheers,
    DB

  2. Oh yes, cheers about the battle of the bands stuff. We were totally not what the crowds were there too see, so I don’t reckon we’ll get too far in the contest as a whole, but it’s been nice so far, and the judges seemed to be well into it. We’re loving Bath/Moles/Purr-Records more and more with each encounter.
